Maker and Restorer of Fine Stringed Instruments

Front View of Restored Guarneri Violin Violin by Peter Guarneri of Venice, 1721

Restored by Dr. Charles Ervin.

The tone of this outstanding violin is extremely intense and powerful, having a lilting crystalline purity and easy projection. Its harmonic clarity gives its voice focussed intonation and gracious nuance in all registers.

This rare beauty shares acoustic properties with the violins of Peter's brother Joseph Guarneri del Gesu. The belly is of fine even-grained spruce. The one-piece back is of broadly undulating curly maple. The scroll is cut with singular charm.

The violin's dimensions are: length 352 mm (13 13/16"), width of upper bouts 164 mm, width of lower bouts 202 mm. The size of the violin makes it very easy to play.

The instrument's condition is robust and healthy. It bears certificates of authenticity from Rembert Wurlitzer (dated 1959) and Harry A. Duffy (1999).
